Principal Structural Engineer – Subsea / Pipeline

Rotterdam

Structural Engineer – Pipeline Engineering

Location: Delft, Netherlands

For a client of ours in the offshore engineering and pipeline installation sector, we are looking

for a Structural Engineer – Pipeline Engineering to join their Pipeline Engineering department.

The department supports offshore pipelay campaigns from the proposal phase through

engineering, offshore execution, and pre-commissioning. Within this department, the Pipeline

Structural team is responsible for designing and analysing the structures required for subsea

pipeline projects, including permanent pipeline structures and installation aids.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer who wants to build a career in offshore

pipeline engineering, structural analysis, subsea field development, and installation support.

The role offers exposure to international offshore projects, multidisciplinary engineering teams,

fabrication partners, offshore personnel, and certification authorities.

Job Overview

As a Structural Engineer – Pipeline Engineering, you will design and analyse structures used

in offshore pipeline projects. These include permanent subsea structures such as PLETs, ILS,

and manifolds, as well as installation aids such as heads, rollerguides, and equipment used

during pipeline installation.

You will assess the integrity, strength, safety, and performance of structures used in offshore

environments. The role combines technical calculations, FEM analysis, design reporting,

fabrication support, installation procedure preparation, and coordination with project teams and

offshore personnel.

This position is suitable for fresh graduates or early-career engineers with strong analytical

ability, technical curiosity, and an interest in offshore engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse and prepare project specifications for structural components used in subsea pipeline

projects.

  • Prepare structural designs, design calculations, and engineering reports within project

scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Perform analytical calculations and structural simulations using FEM analysis.
  • Design and assess permanent subsea structures such as PLETs, ILS, manifolds, and related

pipeline structures.

  • Support the development of installation aids and equipment for subsea field development

projects or offshore installation vessels.

  • Review fabrication drawings and coordinate with fabrication subcontractors and equipment

suppliers.

  • Identify risks related to strength, stability, safety, vessel/equipment performance, and class

approval.

  • Prepare plans and procedures for installation and inspection of offshore equipment.
  • Discuss installation and inspection procedures with project teams and offshore personnel

responsible for execution.

  • Liaise with project teams, subcontractors, crew, clients, and certification authorities.
  • Support offshore operations when required, with the opportunity to stay on board vessels as

a Field Engineer.

Skills & Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering,

or a related discipline.

  • Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, offshore engineering, pipeline

engineering, or a related technical field is an advantage.

  • Strong analytical skills and technical insight.
  • Basic knowledge of structural calculations and engineering design principles.
  • Knowledge of FEM analysis is preferred.
  • Interest in offshore environments, pipeline installation, subsea structures, and installation

engineering.

  • Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary project environment.
  • Willingness to work offshore occasionally, depending on project requirements.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced

engineering environment.

Benefits

  • Competitive industry-benchmarked salary.
  • Excellent pension scheme.
  • Performance-based salary increases and bonuses.
  • 30 vacation days per year.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Extensive training and development programme.
  • Study budget and coaching opportunities.
  • Company-sponsored fitness scheme.
  • Opportunity to work on international offshore pipeline projects.
  • Exposure to subsea engineering, vessel operations, fabrication, and offshore installation

activities.

  • Collaborative, down-to-earth, and technically driven work culture.
  • Internal clubs, committees, company events, and sports activities.
