I have worked in the Microservcices team, which is supposed to be super innovative and all, but despite all the talk about innovation, the IT department is seriously lagging behind in their way of working. For instance, one of the team leads believes that unit testing is a waste of time, and there's nothing in place for CI/CD. The hiring and promotion decisions are significant factor that contributes to the slow modernization of the department. New hires lack important skills, but are kept so the department manager can keep headcount up. Employees that work way to long for the company and are way behind are being promoted to team lead positions. Unfortunately, not many employees seem to take their work seriously, so if you're ambitious and want to develop your technical skills, you'll have to work while being surrounded by noisy (adult?) colleagues who are playing around with toy guns all day. Group IT is not a good place for technical professionals who seek opportunities for growth, and the salary and benefits are not good enough to compensate for this. But the worst part is that some team leads and managers in the Microservices team treat their team members disrespectfully, shouting and screaming are normal communication methods for them. It's disappointing that HR protects the behaviour of these team leads and managers. Additionally, the department often forces its employees to take vacation days on specific dates chosen by the department, which is against the law. If you refuse to comply, your team lead forces you by pointing out that this policy is supported by upper management and that not complying won’t be good for your future in the company.
