Strong potential, but serious concerns around leadership and employee wellbeing
Pluspunten
Flatline Agency is a fast paced and ambitious agency with a talented and creative team. The company offers exposure to a variety of digital marketing projects and gives employees the opportunity to learn quickly and take ownership of responsibilities early on. For people looking to gain agency experience in a dynamic environment, there is definitely a lot to learn. One of the strongest aspects of the company is the energy and creativity of the people working there. The atmosphere can feel motivating and entrepreneurial, especially for those who enjoy high intensity environments and working on multiple projects simultaneously. I also appreciated the opportunity to develop professionally and gain broader experience across different aspects of marketing and operations.
Minpunten
Unfortunately, my overall experience at Flatline Agency became increasingly negative due to the company culture and the handling of employees during stressful situations. The environment often felt extremely high pressure, with an expectation of constant availability through personal WhatsApp communication outside office hours, including early mornings and late evenings. Overtime appeared to be normalized while remaining unpaid according to the employment contract, creating an unhealthy long term work culture. The most concerning aspect was the lack of professionalism and empathy during a medically documented period of illness. Communication quickly escalated into aggressive legal threats and accusations rather than constructive or supportive dialogue. At one point, my sick leave was referred to internally as a “charade,” despite the illness requiring medical treatment and nearly a month of recovery. Requests regarding occupational health procedures and company doctor involvement were not handled appropriately. I was also shocked by how confrontational even simple administrative matters became. During the return of company equipment, I repeatedly requested a documented handover process for expensive equipment, especially since employees themselves are required to sign formal documents when receiving company property. However, nobody was made available to inspect the equipment or provide proof of receipt. After leaving the office and asking for a proper handover arrangement, I received accusations implying that I had “removed” or “stolen” company property based on office camera footage and threatening to take legal actions requesting a payout of 10,000EUR. False claims were made also about unauthorized use of software (!?) during my work time there, again requesting 2,5-3K EUR. I found this completely disproportionate and deeply unprofessional. More broadly, there seemed to be a significant lack of emotional maturity and empathy from the 2 founders during difficult employee situations. During my time there, I also noticed many employees frequently coming and going, which in hindsight reflects the broader instability and retention problems within the company culture. In my opinion, the company urgently needs stronger HR oversight, healthier management communication, proper employee wellbeing procedures and more sustainable expectations around work life balance.
