There are human ways to handle these situations. The absence of communication from leadership and the lack of support for remaining staff only deepened the damage. There should have been meetings. There should have been preparation. There should have been basic respect. People deserved the chance to process, to ask questions, and to feel seen. Understandably, the initial shock and fear many employees felt are now turning into anger.
