Minpunten
I tried my best to write down as many pros as I can but I’m pretty sure I can’t write all the cons in one try! 1) Management: we have so many young managers who are not even 25! First you think it’s a great opportunity and you can also grow fast. But it’s not how it works! Most of the managers here don’t have any leadership skills and they are manager because they are loyal to the CEO, they are good at bullying their team members and they don’t disagree with company decisions even if it doesn’t make sense and even if it means their team should work over time to deliver sth that wasn’t a part of the plan. 2) CEO: He is everywhere. He codes, he does pr, he is product and design manager, hr, and literally he is everything! This is good for a 5 person startup but bunq has more than 300 people who want to do their job but he doesn’t let them! You can work hard on sth based on your knowledge and he can revert all your work without even saying anything. He bullies people in general slack channel whenever he wants. If sth goes wrong he will mention some people in the general channel and attack them. This never happened to me but just reading how he talked with others could make me saddened that how it’s even possible! 3) Working Equipments: we eat our lunch in not completely clean dishes because the dishwasher has been broken forever. The coffee quality is poor and you should go to a coffee house and buy your own. The chairs are horrible! Everyday you should search the office to find sth that is not broken. Monitors and desks and all the other equipments are the same. 4) Personal Respect: as I said you can easily get bullied, you don’t have normal human standards at the office and for me it feels like the modern slavery! Even the toilet paper is the worst quality you can find! I’m 100% sure even in public toilets you can’t find this quality! 5) Technical Respect: again like before it doesn’t matter what you know by profession. If CEO says sth else then you should just follow and don’t say anything. Micromanaging at its highest levels. 6) work-life balance: they say 8 is great, nine is fine! Then we have half an hour for lunch and then we can’t leave work even a minute before 6. Do the calculations yourself. But after all of it some times you can’t finish all the things they want from you and you should know that over time working won’t be compensated. In one sentence, you work a lot without any recognition or appreciation. If it’s perfect, then it was you doing your job (mostly managers get credit for the job) and if you fail, shouting and bullying and 5ys will come. (5 y is a document we should write down when we mess sth) 7) Chaos: we release sth today and revert it tomorrow. There’s always chaos in higher management decision making and you can waste so much time doing and undoing stuff. Also because the rate of people leaving is super crazy, your team and your teammates can change like 5,6 times per year. 8) Salary: It’s the minimum you can get anywhere in The Netherlands. Right now because other companies facing economic difficulties, it’s a little closer to the market range. 9) Hire/Fire (bullying): People are short term investment for the company. As soon as they have some opinion and they don’t want to just follow, they would be bullied by their managers and hr till the end that they resign. 10) who are the good reviewers: we talk with our colleagues and we really don’t know how it’s possible for bunq to have this much good reviews. Maybe new comers who hasn’t suffered still, maybe higher managers… I really don’t know! Why people are here? Most people can’t even stay for a year. They leave as soon as they find sth else. But this manner toward people who don’t have other choices is super mean! My advice? If you have any other options, go for the other one. If don’t, the best thing you can do is to lower your expectations to the minimum and never bother yourself with disagreement with your manager.
