Zarah's Gates career is a testament to perseverance, adaptability, and growth. Her journey began 10 years ago when she joined as a temporary employee. This quickly evolved into the foundation of a thriving career. Recognizing her attention to detail and dedication, we offered her a full-time position as a Planning Executive just five months later. In this role, Zarah delved into planning processes, manpower deployment, and interdepartmental coordination. Over the next two years, she honed her analytical abilities and gained valuable insights into the company’s financial operations. Then, an opportunity arose for her to transition to the Purchasing Department. As a Purchasing Executive, she manages procurement and supplier relationships while ensuring effective inventory planning and management. Her career took another exciting turn joining the Finance Department as an Accounts Payable and Cost Accountant. Zarah combined her purchasing expertise with a growing passion for accounting by managing accounts payable, tracking expenses, and enhancing cost control measures. Throughout her journey, Zarah credits the support of her colleagues and the leadership team for fostering her growth. Each role has served as a stepping stone, allowing her to build knowledge and skills. Looking ahead, she is eager to deepen her expertise in accounting and finance, continually seeking ways to optimize processes, reduce costs, and contribute to the company's success.

We wrapped up the learning module portion of our Soar Leadership Development Program, created in partnership with Princeton HR Insight LLC. Our cohort now begins work on their capstone projects, which will be presented to the Executive leadership team in 2025. Carmen E. Hughes led an engaging module on 'Inclusion.' This training session was designed to promote DE&I. Participants took part in self-reflection and actionable steps to foster inclusion, emphasizing the significance of diversity and equipping them with knowledge to create a more inclusive environment. The ‘Inclusion’ module featured a panel of representatives from each of our three Business Resource Groups, who shared their initiatives and discussed strategies for driving inclusivity. Our last module, 'Executive Presence,' was facilitated by Bryan Price. This module explored best practices to help our leaders show up looking both engaging and with influence. During this session, participants had the opportunity to present to an audience, practicing new skills, and refining their personal leadership philosophy. After, we held a panel, including Cristin Bracken – EVP, Chief Legal Officer; Cindy Cookson – VP & GM Fluid Power, Americas; Gwen Montgomery – EVP, Chief Human Resources Officer; and Diego Silva – Chief Digital & Information Officer, who further enriched the session by sharing their own experiences with executive presence and offering guidance on navigating leadership roles within our teams.
Build-O-Rama continues to be an incredibly rewarding initiative for everyone involved. A big thank you to our partners, Wish for Wheels and Priority Bicycles, as well as our dedicated employees who organized the event and assembled the belt-drive bikes, designed for low maintenance and durability, to support the children's adventures for years to come. #DrivenByPossibility

Meet Harumi! She is the design team manager at our Global Creative Studio, our in-house agency. What she enjoys most about her role is the collaboration with various people from different backgrounds and countries. She also appreciates the opportunities to develop her leadership skills, as her goal is to ensure her team’s personal and professional growth. Just recently she graduated from the Gates Leadership Expeditions Explore Program, where she learned more about giving feedback and conflict management. Being a graphic designer for an industrial manufacturer has been an exciting professional challenge for Harumi. Given our highly technical, business-to-business audience, she had to apply different visual communication tactics than the ones she was accustomed to. She noted that the more she learned about our products and industry, the more she understood the impact our solutions have in the world around her. Saying, “You start noticing Gates everywhere!” A piece of advice from Harumi, “know your value, and learn to stand up for yourself and your work.”
