Vaishnavi is a developer turned UX researcher who joined Juniper in Jan'21. She always wanted her work to reach people. Her ultimate goal? To contribute toward making the use of technology easy and intuitive for users. So she went back to school to earn her Masters in Human-Computer Interaction! While completing her degree, Vaishnavi interacted with many Deaf and hard of hearing students on campus which inspired her to work on a project catered toward accessibility for DHH individuals. So Vaishnavi participated in a Microsoft AI for Accessibility sponsored project on the Deaf users interaction with personal assistant devices using sign-language interactions. Today, her research entitled, “Deaf Users’ Preferences Among Wake-Up Approaches during Sign-Language Interaction with Personal Assistant Devices” has been published as a research paper at the CHI 2021 conference. It identifies key factors that affected the preference of wake-up interaction among DHH users for a futuristic technology where personal assistant devices like Amazon Alexa will be able to understand sign-language
