At Mars, Pets are a special part of our world 🐶 So to mark #InternationalHomelessAnimalDay, we wanted to celebrate the dedication of our colleagues at the Pedigree Foundation. We spoke with Debra Fair, Executive Director about the issue: “Since Pedigree Foundation was created in 2008, we've been working to help end pet homelessness by increasing dog adoption rates - awarding more than $9 million through 5,700 shelter and rescue grants. This past year, we gave over $1 million to 167 shelters and rescues across the U.S., helping an estimated 150,000 dogs. Millions of dogs will end up homeless in 2021, and the challenges of the past 18 months have put more strain on shelters than ever. The good news is, there are many ways to help. You can adopt, volunteer, but it's going to take all of us to make sure International Homeless Animals Day becomes a thing of the past." Here at Mars, we're constantly striving to create a better environmental future; in our push toward a circular economy, we’re reducing packaging we don’t need, redesigning packaging we do need and investing in efforts to create meaningful change! One way we're doing this is with our Royal Canin Team within our petcare division; our Royal Canin dry dog food bags in various European countries are now being produced from flexible, mono-material plastic, making the bags much easier to recycle. We’re also using food-grade recycled plastic as a component in some of our SHEBA cat food pouches in Europe, while our PerfectFit cat food continues to be available in reusable stainless steel containers in Paris!
