I'd like to warn all the expats who are considering to apply. I worked at KPN as a software engineer for over a year and found myself in many unfair situations, even faced racism by my manager! The first impression of the company as a newcomer was quite positive. Good gear for developers, opportunities to improve your skills and socialize with people (many events, trainings with collaboration, etc.). Even if I met many many friendly people, came across lots of toxic people in the working environment (Yes they are everywhere but their number was exceptionally high as I experienced): - Many incompetent people who are pulled from management positions to IT and slowing down projects in order to survive longer... - Some people pulled from non-technical positions (Sales, etc.) to people manager positions, who are also trying to survive, hating their job and mistreating expats. - People who have good personal relations with managers and pulling the responsibilities of other teams on their side by politics to serve their hidden agendas... - Regular cancellation of projects because of bad planning, and the politics I mentioned above. Just throwing your work and company's money out of the window... - In case of a conflict in the team, the first person who will be blamed and prejudged by your manager might be you if you are an expat. You might easily become the scapegoat if you are a foreigner. Not saying every manager there was like that, but that was my experience with my manager. They might even insult you in a one-to-one meeting, knowing that you can't prove and nobody will get in trouble, but only you. They will let you know they can try to use your residency permit as a weapon against you. Again, not saying you'll face this 100%, but happened to me and heard that it happened to other people. Worked for many companies in NL and this was by far the worst experience for me. I know by person 2 expats, who had their first job at KPN, put the blame on the country and left the Netherlands because of similar experiences and looked for a job in other countries. It is a big shame, please clean your company from those toxic people!
