It was only when external investors, new management structure and wrong people promoted things started to go south for me. Sure they make a lot of money now, but instead of focusing on the personal development and doing the interesting problems, they're now just shoveling people onto uninteresting projects. There seems to be an ambition to become a large consultancy with a large churn rate.
When I came in we were doing state of the art things in the cloud, built things never seen before - and helped the clients get ahead. By the time I left we were building legacy platforms, and then I mean really proposing new SSIS based platforms.
Recently it's next to impossible to plan personal development due to billability to be placed on a higher priority than personal development. People are hired at-level to perform at-level without organizational initiative to make individuals grow.
If you're joining middle or senior management you'll have a great time. If you want to grow and work on new shiny things, keep on looking.
