Pluspunten

One of the reasons I chose Macaw was because they thought personal development was important. And in the beginning it was just that, there were interesting projects and enthusiastic people. And the people are still nice, but my favorites have left. I liked how people management used to discuss whether projects aligned with your career goals. There is a relaxed atmosphere in general. People are encouraged to focus on work-life balance. They encourage employees to go for walks or to chat with each other. It's not an expectation to work all the time.

Minpunten

It was only when external investors, new management structure and wrong people promoted things started to go south for me. Sure they make a lot of money now, but instead of focusing on the personal development and doing the interesting problems, they're now just shoveling people onto uninteresting projects. There seems to be an ambition to become a large consultancy with a large churn rate. When I came in we were doing state of the art things in the cloud, built things never seen before - and helped the clients get ahead. By the time I left we were building legacy platforms, and then I mean really proposing new SSIS based platforms. Recently it's next to impossible to plan personal development due to billability to be placed on a higher priority than personal development. People are hired at-level to perform at-level without organizational initiative to make individuals grow. If you're joining middle or senior management you'll have a great time. If you want to grow and work on new shiny things, keep on looking.

Dear Reviewer, I want to thank you for taking the time to review Macaw and especially your time at Macaw. As a Great Place to Work, we value transparency and are always looking for feedback to help us improve. And that includes some oncomfortable feedback every now an then. As such, I am very sorry to hear that "things went south" for you as you describe and would have liked to discuss this in a personal conversation - immediately when you experienced negative things - so we could work on it together. Of course, you have every right to express yourself here, and we are only promoting that, however, your opinion is not in line with some of the facts, our ambition and vision. We have clearly not done a good job of including you in our goals and making you feel positive - and we are sorry about that. For example, one of our core goals is to focus on personal development, competence team development and knowledge sharing across teams and during 2021 our professionals spent 10% on average of their time on this. As a knowledge organization, we actively dedicate time to allow an individual to focus on their personal development plan programs along with clear career paths that allow people to develop and advance within Macaw for years to come. Another important goal is to maintain our company culture. Our Macaw25 ambition is built on the fundament of wanting to keep our culture intact as we value that so much and it's the main driver for our success. Our investor also sees that value and that's why we've jointly included a special culture clause in our investor agreement. Maybe recent years didn't make it easier to 'show' our culture the way we were used to before Covid, but I'm convinced that this will come back, hopefully sooner than later. I want to thank you for your time at Macaw and hope that one day we'll meet again, maybe to talk about your feelings in person. Let me know when, and I will be there. And perhaps sometime in the future you could become part of our growing and exciting community again. Giving us a second chance to fulfil on our employer vision for you. For now, all the best.

Great place with great atmosphere. Really people oriented culture. Lots of freedom and opportunities.

Minpunten

Not much. The only thing I could mention is the bench time. But that is relevant for any consultancy firm and depends in your role.
