Pluspunten

Overall, solid company with well defined culture, good benefits and the company is doing well. CEO works very hard to provide a clear strategic vision.

Minpunten

Your employment experience will be highly dependent on your manager. As with any company, some of the leaders and people managers lack key people skills. Its difficult to compete with your manager's drinking buddy.... unless of course, you are the drinking buddy. Leadership decisions from the CEO down result in continuous change. Just when you think things have settled and you are on a clear path, org and direction changes force you to reset the foundation.

Pluspunten

Capital One is a tech-first company. Most of the latest tech skills, tools, and practices are implemented. Most teams have interesting work where you learn and get to apply your skills.

Minpunten

Often, the new development work is assigned to the full-time employees. Access to many of the tools is also restricted to the FT employees

Pluspunten

Some of the smartest individuals in their fields. The focus is always “forward” and the company is willing to adopt new tech to stay ahead for the purposes of the company’s (key word there) benefit. Great PTO and benefits.

Minpunten

The company’s drive to keep itself moving forward has caused it to regress in other aspects. As a leading tech company first, and leading bank second, it’s embarrassing what their stance is on hybrid and remote work. The company can easily accommodate remote options for their employees not near main offices, but chooses not to. I am relocating to a major city with no major CapOne presence and their response was “too bad, either fly up weekly or you’ll be terminated for not meeting the hybrid requirements”. It’s embarrassing because most of my week is remote anyways. I wonder how many current and past employees have been impacted, and I’m worried about how much talent they’ll be pushing away in the coming years.
