Teams work in silos--I've seen two teams build the same feature, and when they found out, instead of working together, they continued to launch two similar but separate features since they were already road mapped. Management is inexperienced, political, doesn't do much for their direct reports' development. You have to spend a lot of energy making yourself visible, being a toestepper or you'll be lost in the pack. Because of this "me first" ultra competitive environment, people don't often listen to each other within teams.
