Did the first screening and HR asked if I'd ever used a specific tool before. I said no and they still put me through to the next round with the COO. The COO asked if I'd used that tool and I said I already said no but I've used similar. She cut off the interview. I never got an apology, just a canned rejection email after that. If using a tool is so central to the role, it needs to be a screening question in the job application. Communication also needs to be way better in this company.
