Great people, poor management - work to be done

the company has a long, long way to go in terms of transparency and its People culture. I saw another review about how ironic it is that they can boast of a 'people-first' company when they let go dozens of people recently with no communication to the rest of the company, expecting everything to be pushed under the rug with no contest or bothering to tell people what was going on. It's really disrespectful to the people that were let go and also to the rest of the team members who were left in the dark. Do better with communication and give your employees the respect they deserve - please!! The management culture can be toxic - you are constantly overworked and undervalued as the insane hypergrowth takes precedence over your wellbeing. Teams are at the behest of those above them with constantly changing strategies with no notice and no consideration for people's time or capacities. Although this goes with the startup territory, it's exhausting to give your all and get so little back. it would be so much more worth it if there were opportunities for rewards, bonuses, promotions etc but there isn't anything really. Such a shame since people give their all. Upper (c-level) management have 0 idea what goes on in these teams and there doesn't seem to be much willingness to learn about it/ do something about it. Again, little opportunity for growth at this company. Hiring takes place externally and you have to fight for (bare minimum) promotions, raises etc. This is such a downside as it would be great to highlight that hard work pays off and that the CURRENT employees are valued instead of always bringing external people in.

Firstly we’d like to thank you for taking the time to share this detailed feedback with us. We are very sorry to hear that your most recent experiences at Otrium have left you feeling this way and it certainly wasn’t our intention for any actions (or lack of action) to leave you in this place, emotionally. Let us take a moment to shed some light on some of your opinions/observations; People First and Transparency is not something which can happen overnight to everyone and as we make new hires in the company (we doubled in size last year, remember), we make it our priority to assess and support everyone to create an environment that considers and fulfils the needs of our people. In terms of growth and development at Otrium, we have bi-annual performance assessments with follow-up development conversations. We anticipate continued internal mobility/recognition and promotions. Our external roles are available for our existing teams to apply to and we have some great examples already of people applying and landing new roles in new markets/teams/verticals. It is very unfortunate that nevertheless you feel treated that way and we are listening. Especially because we always aim to treat people with respect and empathy, regardless of level/location. We are of course very sorry to hear you have left Otrium feeling this way and certainly do not want this to be the last memory you have of your time here. We have invested a lot lately to improve the way we communicate on a company, team and individual level. It is very unfortunate that nevertheless you feel treated that way. Especially because we always aim to treat people with respect and empathy, regardless of level/location. Any decisions taken to cease employment have been done so with the utmost care and professionalism whilst sticking to local legislation. Toxic management, lack of trust and communication

I met some fantastic colleagues I had the pleasure to work with, although to my knowledge many of them have been let go. Also the hybrid working model is very flexible (yet with a “hyper-growth” intense workload)

This company might come across as your typical startup with an approachable and inclusive culture, yet the reality is quite disappointing. Leadership, and especially the new People/HR management since January, has lacked any sort of tact and sensitivity in regards to people´s emotional well-being and concerns. Many of us were suddenly let go with little to no communication as to why this was happening. Trust was suddenly broken, communication is still nowhere to be found, and meanwhile, Leadership and HR simply acted like everything was fine and pushed us to go on with our tasks as if we aren´t going through an unbearable amount of stress, anxiety, and confusion. Not to mention how many of us slowly fell out of love with the company throughout these last months. So although when I first joined I really loved it there, I have only recently realized that what I perceived as a welcoming and vibrant company culture, was actually only because the employees working there are genuinely the most wonderful and nicest people you´ll meet. The same cannot be said about the Leadership and People/HR management teams. There is this sense of unrealistic positivity and an "everything is cool"-approach from their side at all times, yet meanwhile, most of us at Otrium were aware that something strange was going on, with people silently being let go from one day to the other (sometimes months before the end of their contracts) - and yes, we were silenced. Many of us were pretty much freaking out, wondering if we would be next, while leadership from the “People & Culture” team only communicated to us superficial slogans about “change” and “people first”. Again, I want to emphasize that the Leadership and People team never communicated anything nor had the sensitivity to listen to their employees´ concerns while this was happening. In fact, we were told we were the ones causing trouble for demanding better communication. After outlining this, I realize how baffling it is that the new management brands itself as "People first", and yet they haven´t figured out the importance of taking their employee's trust and emotional well-being seriously, with the respect we deserved. Let alone their complete incompetence in internal communication. Another review I read here, said that the new management was focused on imposing the measures they took at their previous company (I use “they” because a majority of the employees left in HR to this day, have been brought from said previous company, a clear example of how biased the new management is and how their approach relies on disregarding the existing culture at Otrium). It saddens me to say this, really, but Otrium is not a safe environment to work in at the moment, unless there is a serious change in the current company leadership and, especially, in the People/HR leadership.
