Pluspunten
1. Deloitte offers a wide variety of resources and materials very useful for audit and assurance-related engagements such as DTTL tech library, public speaking seminars, IFRS and ISA training sessions, webinars, e-learning exams, hands-on mentoring and managers are very welcoming to let you choose your engagement (e.g. PCAOB or ISA). There is no excuse not to learn in this firm. 2. Engagement team - My managers, seniors, and fellow staff have been incredibly supportive and the wealth of information I've learned (e.g. client relation mechanics, excel shortcuts, testing strategies, etc.) from them is invaluable. They are not the toxic teams I hear at the cafeteria since they allowed me to leave early (i.e. 6pm-7pm)) as long as the working papers have been reviewed and they taught me to really care for my health and to be consistent in learning. 3. Expatriates - You'll be working with professionals from overseas (i.e. I've had seniors and managers from Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.) that enabled me to learn about their cultures and experiences. Working alongside them allowed me to be more confident, and sociable with clients. 4. Client interaction - This will be a hit or miss. Some engagement teams who perform well in their first engagements gets put to more long-term engagements (e.g. being staffed for 6 months to a year) so you get to develop client relationships. You also get to interact with C-suite management (e.g. CEOs, CFOs, etc.) so be prepared to know your role (i.e. they will challenge the audit team's assumptions). After work, there is a great chance of learning from them about their experiences during coffee chats and perspectives on their career paths. 5. Overseas opportunities - Deloitte offers overseas assignment for employees working with the firm for above one year. Having the name of DTTL in the resume is a HUGE LEVERAGE. 6. Small firm - DTTL in PH is a smaller firm compared to SGV, PwC, KPMG and the others. This is a pro since this allows the people to have exposure to every slice of industry. 7. Network - Your partners, managers, seniors, and staff will be your life friends during and after the engagement (if u end on good terms lol). 8. Employment opportunities - This is common among the B4 firms, employers (both local and international) recognize the work done in DTTL. Your personal market value will increase over time.
Minpunten
1. SEVERELY UNDERSTAFFED - Be prepared to have little to no social life during busy season and fiscal year clients with hardclose audits. I had deliverables that were equivalent to the work of 4 staff accountants (BE PREPARED TO BE A ONE MAN ARMY) and had to perform senior level roles. BE AWARE OF 72 hours of work per week (working from mon-sat during peak busy season). I've also had a senior who went AWOL since that person could no longer manage the workload. So what happened? I swallowed that person's workload and cried for 15 minutes in a corner. During virtual meetings, I would occasionally hear some members of a team weeping after the discussion. (Yes, breakdowns are normal here) 2. POOR PAY - this is self explanatory 3. Equipment - The firm does not provide everyone with the latest laptops. Do not be surprised if they give you the oldest HP Elitebook that crashes every 2-3 days. 4. Timesheet Method - This is embarrassing to the firm. Imagine promptly submitting working papers, meeting deadlines, and STILL BE FLAGGED AS IRRESPONSIBLE by HR all because of a missed timesheet log in. WORK SHOULD BE OUTPUT-BASED, not time-based. Our clients are laughing at us because of this old-fashioned method. Other Deloitte offices overseas have turned away on timesheets already. Please catch up, PH office.
