For context, the job had been open on their career page for four months at least at the time I applied. Education wise, they only required a high school diploma. There were hundreds of applicants on Linkedin, yet no hire - red flag. An online assessment was taken. Then, (audio) co-worker conversations. Once those were passed, there was an invitation to a hirevue interview, which was very, very simple. Almost embarrassingly simple compared to the previous assessments I had already cleared. Yet, after emailing another department for a follow up (which they hadn't bothered to give after 5 days had passed, per Amazon's 2-5 rule), I received a "we regret to inform you" email, despite having an extensive background in all the required fields and even a Bachelor's. Did they prefer someone with no degree maybe? It could be the case, according to relevant Linkedin profiles, some people with that role or in that specific department did not even finish college. It's a puzzling. In my opinion, there is something sketchy in the way they're hiring for this role (or avoiding hiring for a while so that they can offshore it and pay less? If that's the case, I simply wish they didn't waste my time). Spoiler alert - one month later, the role is still open. My guess is that it will be open for even longer.
